Earlier this year someone told me about Strawberry Fields, the natural food store, and I didn't consider going (I try to be healthy but natural foods have never sounded real appeasing to me...) However, I was in Urbana a couple weeks ago and thought I would just stop in to check it out.

Some of the food is how I expected it to be (I won't be buying natural potato chips again.. haha) - other things are definitely worth checking out though.

They have a little cafe setup and there are always quite a few people. They serve up coffee, sandwiches, homemade bread, etc. I've never ate there myself but the fresh breads and drinks always look really good.

They also have a lot of fresh grains, freshly made pastas, dried fruits, etc. There is a whole aisle of canisters with dried foods to try out; you bag it yourself and it is sold by the pound, so it is nice to pick up some new foods to try.

In the same aisle there are a lot of fresh coffees and a huge selection of some really awesome teas. I wasn't feeling so hot the first day I was there so I picked up some Yogi Tea: Green Tea Goji Berry and it is probably one of the best teas I have had. It is a green tea but has blueberry, cherry, lotus flower, and raspberry flavoring.

They also have a whole section of organic produce, most of it is locally grown.

Their avocados are the best in town for gaucamole! Seriously, there is no competition here.

Today I needed two avocados for gaucamole and I actually drove all the way from mid-Champaign to downtown Urbana.

Last week I signed up to volunteer at Virginia Theater for a club requirement. In my hometown we had some old converted theaters, so I thought I had an idea of what Virginia Theater was like. When I arrived at the theater though I was really surprised by the how large and ornate the building was; the theaters I have been to before like this have never been as large or detailed on the outside.

Present Day

1920's

The inside was as ornate as the outside, a reminder of how old the theater is.

What is unique about Viriginia theater is that it is operated and maintained by volunteers in the community. I think it is really great that people in the community are coming together to keep up with it.

In addition, volunteers have been working hard to renovate the building, inside and out. There are pictures on their website that really show how far renovations have come.

There is a lot of renovating to be done, but it is definitely worth checking out if you feel like catching a show.

Indiana Jones and The Dark Knight will be playing here in the coming weeks and it is only 2$ on Tuesdays and 3$ on Thursdays! Can't beat that.

Someone there was telling me that they have all types of shows: comedy acts, musical productions, etc.

We will probably be back to catch Indiana Jones and/or The Dark Knight, so I will try and take some pictures of my favorite features to post.

A new business opened on Walnut Street that is selling gourmet cupcakes and alcohol - best idea I have heard in a long time. A friend and I checked it out this afternoon fand it was definitely worth the drive to downtown.

The place is a little small but they hid this well with a lot of large windows and bright colors. There is a LOT of style in this little bar; they have really great decorations/furniture and really neat artwork. There is also a bar and seating outside as well - facing Walnut street, which is a really cool place to people watch.

The cakes were really really good and they had some interesting flavors besides vanilla and chocolate (I tried the white chocolate macadamia nut and it was amazing).

Expect cakes around 3$ but as you can see in the photo below, they are large enough.

We will definitely be back to try some more!

Mmmm.... cupcakes
